6mths Post Partum

I honestly cannot believe my little baby is 6mths old, I feel like I blinked and here we are!  The past couple months have been amazing, watching our little baby grow and develop into this little man with such a great personality and always huge smile on his face!

Cash is growing like crazy, rolling from side to side and front to back flawlessly and even sitting on his own however his balance from side to side still needs some work! He loves to have conversations especially after he finished his bottle and he absolutely loves his skip hop activity centre, I swear he could enjoy it for hrs if we let him! He’s also taken a much bigger interest in Cali and watches her constantly! He even smiles when she starts to walk towards him and she has also started to be much more interested in him, giving him kisses and joining us in his room for feedings and story readings!

Another big change is we have started solids, I seriously can’t believe I have a baby old enough to eat real food! We started with baby oatmeal (Holle) just after 4mths and he has been doing very well with it so our paediatrician recommended we go ahead with starting foods! As you can tell in the picture below he was really digging the yams!!

One negative over the past few months was that our breastfeeding journey ended sooner than I had hoped. Cash had a reaction to his 4mth immunizations and at that time would not take a bottle or nurse. Since he recovered he would take a bottle but still wouldn’t nurse. I tried going back to a nipple shield, changing my diet but nothing seemed to work and because I wasn’t quite ready to give up hope I continued pumping for another month (serious credit to all the moms who pump full time, it is exhausting and so time consuming) and after a month finally decided it was time to exclusively formula feed. Part of me was devastated because I had hoped after all the hard work establishing my supply/overcoming latching issues early on that we would atleast get to 6mths however part of me was relieved. It is such a difficult journey but in the end I am so proud to have breastfed for as long as I did.

We started sleeping training shortly after 4.5mths and this has been THE biggest game changer. We followed the 3 Day Sleep Solution (which can be found in the files of the Respectful Sleep Training Facebook Group). Cash was napping maximum 30-40mins about 3-4 times a day and he is now napping 1-2.5hrs 4x a day and sleeping through the night with 1 or 2 feeds per night! In a nutshell it is teaching the child to connect their sleep cycles! It has given me time to myself, time to blog, time to relax and also time to nap haha!

Lastly an update on my fitness, I just recently started BBG (Sweat App on Apple Store By Kayla Itsines) I was finding after we started sleep training it was easier to have the flexibility to work out at home or outside so I am really enjoying this app so far. It has a workout schedule you have the option of following, tons of workout sequences and meal planning. I am still walking almost every day on top of my daily workout and am about 10pounds away from my goal weight! The human body is so amazing, I gained almost 35 pounds during my pregnancy and 6mths post partum I am feeling amazing, definitely not at my goal weight yet but my focus is on enjoying my son, watching him grow and fitting in my workouts around his schedule! Moms can be so hard on themselves and I think we all need to remember just how much the women’s body goes through when growing and birthing a child and give ourselves a little credit and time to work out way back to pre pregnancy weight whether thanks in 2mth, 6mths or a yr!

Thanks so much for reading!
