Updated Skincare Routine

Lately I have had some amazing feedback in regards to my skin and I have noticed such a huge difference in my skin that I wanted to share my updated skincare routine! (PS i should note this is not a sponsored post, I purchased all of these products with my own $$!)

When I was initially looking for a new skincare regiment I set out to find a natural, plant based skincare that was Vegan, did not test on animals and would not break the bank, this lead me to The Body Shop.

Cleanser:  Vitamin E Gentle Facial Wash (literally so creamy and so soft!)  I wanted something I could use everyday that would not irritate or dry out my skin, that I could use throughout the year regardless of season and I have to say I absolutely love this cleanser!!

Moisturizer: Initially I had tried the Seaweed Oil-Control Mattifying Gel Day Cream. It has a creamy gel consistency and applies great however I have to admit I love it, it does its job well but I needed more moisture so I purchased the Vitamin E Moisture Cream. I lovvvvve this moisturizer, Ive gone through two tubes in the span of a couple months! It leaves my skin moisturized but not oily and gives the perfect amount of hydration without clogging pores or leaving my skin feeling heavy!

Night Cream: Because I have been loving the Vitamin E line so much I decided I wanted to try a night cream/oil. This would be my first night cream as I would usually just use my daily moisturizer in the past. I went with the Vitamin E Overnight Serum In Oil and have been using it for about two week now and I absolutely lovvve it. The hydration it gives my skin without leaving it really oily surprisingly! Ive also combined it with my Vitamin E Moisturizer in the mornings if Im need a bit more hydration! You could also add it to you tinted moisturizer or foundation to add hydrating in the coming winter months! This will be a repeat product for me 100% because of the versatility and because

Eye Cream: An eye cream is another product I have wanted to try (its never to soon to get ahead on the anti aging!) and I decided to go with the Vitamin E Refreshing Eyes Cube Stick. The applicator is very easy to use and I apply it on my eyelids and under my eyes, like a half circle or C motion to tackle those crows feet too. Initially I found the skin around my eyes felt very tight after applying so I decided to apply it before I apply my moisturizer to lessen that tight feeling and this sequence ended up working great!

Anti Aging:  I have been using the Drops of Youth Serum for several months now and it is my favourite product from The Body Shop, it is also super highly rated and I can understand why! The serum enhances surface skin condition, leaving it looking smoother, fresher and healthier. It utilizes  technology from plant stem cells from Edelweiss, Sea Holly and Criste Marine to help boost surface skin cell renewal, leaving skin feeling immediately moisturised and instantly softer! They have an entire line of Drops of Youth products and I will definitely be looking to expand my routine to include some of these products!

Masks: I have been using the Chinese Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Polishing Mask and the British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask  for the past several months and am almost out of both! I will definitely be going back for the polishing mask as it is the perfect clarifying/pore cleansing masks i need for my oily/combination skin. I find it works so well I actually tend to get acne for a couple days after I use it and then my skin clears right up! I do like the plumping mask, for those that may need some add volume in their skin I would definitely recommend it however my next mask I will be looking to get will be the Ethiopian Honey Deep Nourishing Mask  to help protect and comfort my skin for the upcoming dry and harsh winter and the Amazonian Acai Energizing Radiance Mask to increase the natural glow and overall look of my skin!

My Morning Routine

Step 1: Vitamin E Gentle Facial Wash

Step 2: Drops of Youth Serum

Step 3: Vitamin E Refreshing Eyes Cube Stick

Step 4: Vitamin E Moisture Cream

My Nighttime Routine

Step 1: Vitamin E Gentle Facial Wash

Step 2: Drops of Youth Serum

Step 3: Vitamin E Refreshing Eyes Cube Stick

Step 4: Vitamin E Overnight Serum In Oil and or Vitamin E Moisture Cream Add two drops to your moisturizer if you don’t want too much oil!

*Every week I have been alternating with my two masks

I highly recommend you go to your local Body Shop and check out all of their amazing products, they have such a variety of lines that cater to any age and skin type! Lastly their pricing is so reasonable, as a mom on maternity leave I do not have hundreds of dollars to spend that being said I wanted a quality product and found it at the Body Shop! Also keep an eye out, they currently have buy 3 get two free and they do have a 40% off sale every once in a while!!

1970’s Inspired Fall Look

I could easily say fall fashion is my absolute favourite, not only for the comfort, textures and rich colours but for the layering! When I was putting this look together I was inspired by the era of hippies and flare jeans, with an modernized, edgy & boho vibe! I am such a huge fan of ponchos (especially ones that can double as scarves) and styling this one in particular with an edgier criss cross t shirt from Tobi and flare jeans worked flawlessly! Each piece really complimented each other and it is an outfit that would look good and compliment any body type!

I have linked all of my outfit details below and hope this look inspires any of you to have fun with your fashion<3

Jackets

Im a huge fan of bomber jackets recently, not only can they be worn with workout leggings but they can also be dressed up with jeans and a cute lace top! I tend to lean towards neutral shades when it comes to jackets as it will give you a broader ranger of uses and more ways to pair with different outfits! Ive also added my favourite floral bomber below to show another way to style these different bombers!

That being said you want to make sure that if you are going to style a patterned or printed pant you want to stay neutral on the rest of your wardrobe so it is not too overwhelming! On the reverse if you are wearing a solid colour pant, a floral or patterned bomber would be the way to go!

Fall Must Haves

A Little Life Update

I can’t believe this is my first post in a couple weeks (oops!) It has been so refreshing to take some time off and spend it with my little family! Clayton is still on a two week away, one week home shift so we’ve managed pretty well with that and have been taking huge advantage of the week he is home! This last turn around he took some extra time off and  we took our first family trip to Kelowna and had a week of sheer bliss! Our days were spent in the pool, out on adventures and in the sun, it was just what we needed to end the summer!

Cash just turned 8mths this week and has started crawling (ahh!!!). I’ve probably burned 10,000 calories in the last week chasing him around and moving things out of his way haha!! He’s talking up and storm and has even started climbing on things, I’m sure it won’t be long and our little nugget with be standing/walking on his own (insert cry emoji!) He is growing up so fast!! He’s been eating purees for a couple months now and we have started some larger pieces of food now and he is absolutely devouring everything (just like his dad haha!) The sleeping front has been interesting, I initially had him down to one feeding from 6pm to 6am but with the traveling and chaos of the last couple weeks he’s been waking up for two zzzz!. My goal this week is to get him back down to 1!!

Fall Must Haves

Any who back to the blog post!! (As a mom I’m sure anyone can relate you can talk about your kids for hours haha!) Fall is definitely my favourite season for fashion, bulky sweaters, rich fall colours, boots, textures and scarves! Give me all the goodies!

Like any other season it can be hard to narrow down what to buy or leave on the rack. I always go in with a mind set of “Is this classic or trendy?” I truly try to stay on the classic route because I know season to season these will be the pieces I continually reach for. It is also much easier on your wallet (maybe not initially) but in the long term!!

I think you also want to keep in mind, functionality (where and when will you be wearing these pieces!) As a new mom I now look for comfortable, affordable, easy to style pieces that I can wear while chasing my little crawling man around. The best thing about all of the pieces I mention below is they accomplish all of the above as well as can be just as perfect for a working women, all while still looking fashionable! You never have to compromise on comfort over looking and feeling great in the pieces you are wearing!

When it comes to being prepared for fall, these items are on my must have list!

Suede Leggings (Gentle Fawn Eastwood Leggings here & here)

To me fall and leggings go hand in hand, you can’t have one without the other haha!! Leggings are an absolute must for fall and I am absolutely loving these suede leggings by Gentle Fawn, classic yet with a bit of edge! So much so I’ve got them in multiple colours! They are comfy, stretchy and can pretty much be worn with anything! A definite fall must have with an oversized sweater or pattern dress!

A Textured Handbag (Matt & Nat Cork Kintla & Ohara here & here)

I believe this was on my must haves last fall (classic vs trendy but still edgy and fun!) but how can they not be! I own both of these handbags and they are my absolute favourite come fall! The cork adds such a gorgeous texture that can literally be worn with anything, dressed up or down! The Kintla is the perfect work bag with an inner zipper pouch that easily fits a 13′ laptop! The Ohara is the perfect on the go bag and something I will be using so much this fall as I can wear it cross body with my diaper backpack or it is small enough to fit inside! The Ohara can be worn as a cross body or clutch and has an easy open top!

Neutral Jacket

I picked up the Rebecca King Techno Suit Jacket from Miss Boss earlier this month and am absolutely in love! Its so soft, comfortable and is so multidimensional with the light grey tones! You can wear it with jeans and some booties or dressed up with skirt and blouse or dress! Stayed tuned for it to be back in stock at Miss boss! I also added a second alternative, the BB Dakota Fleece Maggie Coat as another neutral jacket but different fit and style!

Ankle Booties

I own both of the Meade booties in both orange and grey and they are absolutely my go to shoes come fall( pictured above in grey!). With a small heel they are easy to put on while juggling life, especially now with a baby! I also love that they look amazing with a cute fall turtleneck dress or jeans!!

Top Left: Meade Booties (On sale for $32US!!) Top Right: Pronto Booties

Bottom Left: Trader Booties Bottom Right: Winston Bootiesbooties2.jpg

Last but not least, a Scarf!

If you’ve been following me for a while you know that come fall a scarf is included in every one of my daily outfits! I absolutely love what scarves can bring to an outfit, texture, pattern and comfort (not to mention if you are a Canadian, added warmth!)

Top Left: Aztec Scarf ($25) Top Right: Black & White Plaid Scarf ($25)

Bottom Left:Haus Party ($85)  Bottom Right: Diamond Mosaic ($65)

I could not say enough good things about the selection, fit and comfort of the clothes I tried on at Warehouse One, especially their jeans!! 6mths Post Partum

I honestly cannot believe my little baby is 6mths old, I feel like I blinked and here we are!  The past couple months have been amazing, watching our little baby grow and develop into this little man with such a great personality and always huge smile on his face!

Cash is growing like crazy, rolling from side to side and front to back flawlessly and even sitting on his own however his balance from side to side still needs some work! He loves to have conversations especially after he finished his bottle and he absolutely loves his skip hop activity centre, I swear he could enjoy it for hrs if we let him! He’s also taken a much bigger interest in Cali and watches her constantly! He even smiles when she starts to walk towards him and she has also started to be much more interested in him, giving him kisses and joining us in his room for feedings and story readings!

Another big change is we have started solids, I seriously can’t believe I have a baby old enough to eat real food! We started with baby oatmeal (Holle) just after 4mths and he has been doing very well with it so our paediatrician recommended we go ahead with starting foods! As you can tell in the picture below he was really digging the yams!!

One negative over the past few months was that our breastfeeding journey ended sooner than I had hoped. Cash had a reaction to his 4mth immunizations and at that time would not take a bottle or nurse. Since he recovered he would take a bottle but still wouldn’t nurse. I tried going back to a nipple shield, changing my diet but nothing seemed to work and because I wasn’t quite ready to give up hope I continued pumping for another month (serious credit to all the moms who pump full time, it is exhausting and so time consuming) and after a month finally decided it was time to exclusively formula feed. Part of me was devastated because I had hoped after all the hard work establishing my supply/overcoming latching issues early on that we would atleast get to 6mths however part of me was relieved. It is such a difficult journey but in the end I am so proud to have breastfed for as long as I did.

We started sleeping training shortly after 4.5mths and this has been THE biggest game changer. We followed the 3 Day Sleep Solution (which can be found in the files of the Respectful Sleep Training Facebook Group). Cash was napping maximum 30-40mins about 3-4 times a day and he is now napping 1-2.5hrs 4x a day and sleeping through the night with 1 or 2 feeds per night! In a nutshell it is teaching the child to connect their sleep cycles! It has given me time to myself, time to blog, time to relax and also time to nap haha!

Lastly an update on my fitness, I just recently started BBG (Sweat App on Apple Store By Kayla Itsines) I was finding after we started sleep training it was easier to have the flexibility to work out at home or outside so I am really enjoying this app so far. It has a workout schedule you have the option of following, tons of workout sequences and meal planning. I am still walking almost every day on top of my daily workout and am about 10pounds away from my goal weight! The human body is so amazing, I gained almost 35 pounds during my pregnancy and 6mths post partum I am feeling amazing, definitely not at my goal weight yet but my focus is on enjoying my son, watching him grow and fitting in my workouts around his schedule! Moms can be so hard on themselves and I think we all need to remember just how much the women’s body goes through when growing and birthing a child and give ourselves a little credit and time to work out way back to pre pregnancy weight whether thanks in 2mth, 6mths or a yr!

Thanks so much for reading!
