Alberta Strong

I could not bring myself to write about anything materialistic or insignificant today, as well as post anything on instagram this last week as 88,000+ people have been evacuated from their homes and have left everything behind.

If you are not from Canada, Alberta’s largest northern city, Fort McMurray issued a mandatory evacuation this week to its 88,000 residents due to an uncontrollable wild fire. Families have been displaced, many have lost everything and yet somehow there is hope. Hope because of this amazing province of Alberta, our country and the exceptional individuals that call this place home. It gives me goosebumps to think of how this province, my city of Edmonton and this country have rallied around Fort McMurray residents, opened their homes to strangers, donated their time, services, money, food, gas, anything these people are now without.

I am unbelievably humbled and touched by the strength of this province and its citizens. It has once again reminded me of how valuable life is and how grateful I am to be an Albertan.

I want to personally thank all of the firefighters who are continuing to risk there lives fighting these fires, the rcmp for their support in aiding in the evacuation, the restaurants who have offered free food, the hotel chains that have offered free accommodations and the thousands of everyday citizens who have gone above and beyond to help these Alberta citizens.

If you are looking for ways to help support these people I have linked some various options below.
