My 5 Minute Makeup Routine

Life has been so hectic lately that it only made sense to share my quick and easy 5 minute makeup routine for the days when getting ready seems like another task on your long list of things to do!

This look is perfect for those mornings when you want to feel put together but don’t want to put in a lot of effort! I literally timed myself and was off to the grocery store minutes later(note the sports bra and tank!!)  Also you’ll notice no defined eyebrows ahhh!!!! hahaha! In 5 minutes I could not do them justice so they gone! (I just added a bit of tinted brow gel to fill them in a bit!)

Ok here we go!

Depending on the amount of coverage you want a tinted primer may be enough however I have acne spots and redness I wanted covered up so I just went over my face lightly with the Loreal Lumi Cusion Foundation (my full review here), applied with a beauty blender for a bit more coverage. This foundation is buildable depending on the extent of coverage you would like and gives a beautiful glow perfect for the spring and summer months!

Use the concealer under your eyes to brighten and over any problem areas (redness/acne etc). I used one of my favourite concealers to ever grace the planet, the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Concealer  (my full review here) for this quick makeup look! Once you have finished blending you concealer, set face with any setting powder. I am currently trying the Ben Nye Luxury Powder in Cameo.

I have been obsessing over Matte Bronzers lately especially after coming into the world of highlighters and I couldn’t resist the Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in the shade Milkshake. It is the perfect shade for light skin tones and did i mention it smells like chocolate!! Scrumptious!! Adding a matte bronzer will give your face some dimension without looking done up or contoured!

You all know I am now on the highlighter band wagon so for this look I wanted to add a bit of glow with Becca Cosmetics Champagne Pop. This highlighter is perfection and I love the combination with this bronzer, enough of a subtle glow to look healthy and put together!

I love me some mascara and don’t leave home without it. For this look I once again used another one of my go tos, the Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes mascara and primer in one (full review here)! You go with what you know right!

If I am running some errands or going to the grocery store I prefer to have a very light glossy lip. That way it is super quick and easy and still looks like you put some effort in lol! For this look I used the Buxom Full On Lip Cream in the shade White Russian, literally the perfect nudey pink!

I hope you guys enjoyed this look and have an awesome week!

Beach Vacation Essentials & Carry On Pack List

I can’t believe today is friday, this week has flown by!! In a few short days I will be baking in the Kauai sun on an amazing girls trip with my mom and I could not be more excited!! I will also be taking a break from the blog this coming week to fully enjoy my time off! This week was a bit rough as I have been really feeling under the weather these last couple days and have lacked energy to do anything!:(

I wanted to share how I pack my carry on luggage for my beach vacations and show you that you do not need to check luggage if you can find the time to organize and pack smart! I actually don’t remember the last time I checked luggage, the two longest trips Ive ever been on Thailand 4 weeks and Australia 4 weeks both Clayton and I only took carry on so it can be done!!

  1. First key to packing carry on, organize your outfits. Lay your clothes out on your bed, at the bottom start with pants then move on to coordinate shirts and other attire that goes with those outfit colour coordinating patterns and colours, 3 pairs of pants and 3 shirts should all be able to work together and give you 9 possible outfit ideas!
  2. Second Key, wear your heaviest clothes on the plane (sweater, jeans or pants, running shoes, scarf etc)
  3. Third essential for packing is roll all of your clothes and use every square centimetre of space (inside shoes, under bras etc) I have shown my steps below and at the end I half almost a full side of unused space for some shopping purchasing I may have!!
  4. Your second piece of luggage that you are aloud to take on the plane should be a large purse or smaller sized duffle bag (I always use my Stella & Dot Expandable Getaway Bag). Keep your purse in this bag as well as headphones and other things you may want to access on the plane. That way you can have some additional space in there if your luggage fills up!
  5. Keep your liquids in a small ziplock bag and in your carry on purse, that way it is easily accessible through security. (Remember the 100ml limit for all liquids!)

I have attached the packing list I created for myself to remember all the key essentials for a beach vacation as well as shared some pictures of the items I am packing for my trip!

I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to reconnecting when I am back in a week!!

Save or Splurge: NYX Genius Illuminating Palette vs Becca Cosmetics Champagne Pop

Two months ago I had never used a highlighter let alone bought one and after watching some videos and doing some research I decided I needed to try out this latest trend.

Highlighting, also known as strobing is used to enhance and accentuate your bone structure as the light reflects the pigment of the highlighter, giving the appearance of a healthy glow. I have come to adore this look especially for the coming summer months!

The key to using highlight and not looking like a hot mess.

  1. A little goes a long way! I only use highlighter on my cheekbones, above the curve of my brows, on my cupids bow and down the bridge of my nose. You can also use highlighter on your collar bones if you are wearing a tank top to help accentuate your bone structure! Going over board on your application will result in a hot mess!
  2. When using a highlighter only use shimmer in your highlighter, use matte powders for the rest of your face Ie blush, bronzer, foundation etc. This will help accentuate and highlight your features as well as help avoid a your whole face reflecting light!
  3. Find a highlighter that compliments your skin tone. If your skin has pink undertones look for a highlighter with those same pink undertones, for olive skin look for yellow/gold undertones etc.

The first highlighter I ever purchased was this NYX Genius Illuminating Palette at Shoppers Drug Mart. For the price it is really unbeatable! $30 for 7 shades!! Highlighters range from $10 (Colourpop) to $50 (Becca Cosmetics), some of you may have heard of Champagne Pop, the collaboration between Jaclyn Hill and Becca Cosmetics?! Yes?! This highlighter is probably one of the most expensive ones on the market at $50, so I wanted to compare the two and see if the price difference was really worth it?!

Compared Side by Side with the NYX (bottom left) and Champagne Pop

(Left: Champagne Pop, Right: NYX Genius Palette bottom left)

The main difference between the two is Champagne pop has more of a peachy gold undertone and the Nyx Pallette shade is a bit more pinkish gold in pigment however both are gorgeous shades and if you have pink undertones in your skin I would recommend the NYX shade. Both have a buttery texture and a little goes a long way in each products case. I really like that champagne pop is the perfect neutral for any skin tone so it gets a little more browny points but in the end both are gorgeous highlighters. If cash flow is tight you are getting a fantastic deal with the Nyx palette (7 for the price of 1) and you are not compromising on quality. If you are a seasoned highlighter I would recommend Champagne pop!

Hope you enjoyed!
