Fall Must Haves

A Little Life Update

I can’t believe this is my first post in a couple weeks (oops!) It has been so refreshing to take some time off and spend it with my little family! Clayton is still on a two week away, one week home shift so we’ve managed pretty well with that and have been taking huge advantage of the week he is home! This last turn around he took some extra time off and  we took our first family trip to Kelowna and had a week of sheer bliss! Our days were spent in the pool, out on adventures and in the sun, it was just what we needed to end the summer!

Cash just turned 8mths this week and has started crawling (ahh!!!). I’ve probably burned 10,000 calories in the last week chasing him around and moving things out of his way haha!! He’s talking up and storm and has even started climbing on things, I’m sure it won’t be long and our little nugget with be standing/walking on his own (insert cry emoji!) He is growing up so fast!! He’s been eating purees for a couple months now and we have started some larger pieces of food now and he is absolutely devouring everything (just like his dad haha!) The sleeping front has been interesting, I initially had him down to one feeding from 6pm to 6am but with the traveling and chaos of the last couple weeks he’s been waking up for two zzzz!. My goal this week is to get him back down to 1!!

Fall Must Haves

Any who back to the blog post!! (As a mom I’m sure anyone can relate you can talk about your kids for hours haha!) Fall is definitely my favourite season for fashion, bulky sweaters, rich fall colours, boots, textures and scarves! Give me all the goodies!

Like any other season it can be hard to narrow down what to buy or leave on the rack. I always go in with a mind set of “Is this classic or trendy?” I truly try to stay on the classic route because I know season to season these will be the pieces I continually reach for. It is also much easier on your wallet (maybe not initially) but in the long term!!

I think you also want to keep in mind, functionality (where and when will you be wearing these pieces!) As a new mom I now look for comfortable, affordable, easy to style pieces that I can wear while chasing my little crawling man around. The best thing about all of the pieces I mention below is they accomplish all of the above as well as can be just as perfect for a working women, all while still looking fashionable! You never have to compromise on comfort over looking and feeling great in the pieces you are wearing!

When it comes to being prepared for fall, these items are on my must have list!

Suede Leggings (Gentle Fawn Eastwood Leggings here & here)

To me fall and leggings go hand in hand, you can’t have one without the other haha!! Leggings are an absolute must for fall and I am absolutely loving these suede leggings by Gentle Fawn, classic yet with a bit of edge! So much so I’ve got them in multiple colours! They are comfy, stretchy and can pretty much be worn with anything! A definite fall must have with an oversized sweater or pattern dress!

A Textured Handbag (Matt & Nat Cork Kintla & Ohara here & here)

I believe this was on my must haves last fall (classic vs trendy but still edgy and fun!) but how can they not be! I own both of these handbags and they are my absolute favourite come fall! The cork adds such a gorgeous texture that can literally be worn with anything, dressed up or down! The Kintla is the perfect work bag with an inner zipper pouch that easily fits a 13′ laptop! The Ohara is the perfect on the go bag and something I will be using so much this fall as I can wear it cross body with my diaper backpack or it is small enough to fit inside! The Ohara can be worn as a cross body or clutch and has an easy open top!

Neutral Jacket

I picked up the Rebecca King Techno Suit Jacket from Miss Boss earlier this month and am absolutely in love! Its so soft, comfortable and is so multidimensional with the light grey tones! You can wear it with jeans and some booties or dressed up with skirt and blouse or dress! Stayed tuned for it to be back in stock at Miss boss! I also added a second alternative, the BB Dakota Fleece Maggie Coat as another neutral jacket but different fit and style!

Ankle Booties

I own both of the Meade booties in both orange and grey and they are absolutely my go to shoes come fall( pictured above in grey!). With a small heel they are easy to put on while juggling life, especially now with a baby! I also love that they look amazing with a cute fall turtleneck dress or jeans!!

Last but not least, a Scarf!

If you’ve been following me for a while you know that come fall a scarf is included in every one of my daily outfits! I absolutely love what scarves can bring to an outfit, texture, pattern and comfort (not to mention if you are a Canadian, added warmth!)

As women and moms it is so important to our self confidence that we feel good in the clothes we are wearing. I could not say enough good things about the selection, fit and comfort of the clothes I tried on at Warehouse One, especially their jeans!! I tried about 4 different pairs and besides the length of one, I loved every single one of them. I ended up choosing the Bottoms Up Skinny Jeans, that are cut and sewn to give a little boost to your bum! I mean what women doesn’t want a little extra lift back there that doesn’t require the gym!! They also have a beautiful stretch in them, I don’t know about you but I won’t buy my jeans without a little stretch, it makes them more comfortable and flattering! I also instantly fell in love with this olive relaxed tee and floral bomber. Both styles are so cute, comfortable, flattering and super affordable, each piece giving you endless possibilities when it comes to working with your own wardrobe! Easter Stripes with a Pop Of Colour

With Good Friday tomorrow it is time to celebrate Easter with good food and family! With Easter usually comes dinners, brunches and an excuse to get a little dressed up! I have teamed up with Miss Boss to bring you a beautiful option for an Easter outfit this weekend!

Monochromic stripes are such a great option, in my opinion, for any outing casual or dressy and this BB Dakota Jaxson Striped Dress is utter perfection. A thick and stretchy material, it is perfect for a comfy laid back option with sneakers or a dressier look like this one that we have put together! (I also love that its not tight especially if you are conscious of your mid section like this mama!!) It allows you an easy to pair base with any other piece in your wardrobe, patterned (floral would be adorable too) or colour! (It snowed the day we took these photos so I added some leggings and boots however a cute pair of ankle booties without the leggings would be a great option too if the weather is warmer where you are!). Also keep in mind I am 5’10 so the dress came a bit high on me but for anyone smaller it would be a great fit without the need to wear anything underneath!

Now lets talk accessories! This coral Matt and Nat Abiko clutch is the perfect pop of pink for this Easter weekend! I love the clutch handle and the three pockets that allow you to fit everything you need! I paired this outfit with knee high boots and a sparkly necklace and earrings to dress it up a bit (all accessories are linked below), you could also get away with a pop of colour with your accessories too. See what I mean, the options are endless!

Lastly lets talk about this bomber. I mean what can you say, this BB Dakota Troy Jacket is perfection! I loved the cropped length, perfect to be paired with a dress like this one or a t-shirt and jeans! I also love the beautiful silver detailed zipper and drawstring bottom. This is a jacket that will transition flawlessly from spring to summer to fall and the neutral black colouring will compliment any outfit! Definitely a wardrobe staple for sure!

Ive posted the remaining details of my outfit below, I hope you all have a wonderful Easter filled weekend with yummy food and much love!

Hair Evolution – Techniques To Growing Out Your Hair

For those of you who have recently started following the blog, I have been in the process of growing out my shaved head since July of 2015! In Feb 2015 I shaved my head to support my dad going through cancer treatment. It has been a slow and painful process but we are getting there! Ive had a lot of questions about getting through the tough phases of growing out a buzz cut or short pixie so I thought Id put together a compilation of products and techniques I have used throughout the last year!

My first big tip, find a great hairstylist! If you are in the Edmonton area Taylor of Hair Color and Soul is amazing, there is no one else I would let shave my head and help me grow it out!! Her Facebook page is linked here

Must Have Hair Products

Pureology Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner is my ride or die. I have used it for years to keep my hair conditioned and healthy and the last couple years have been no exception. The pureology line is sulphate free and 100% vegan. I have tried several other lines and nothing has even come close to giving my hair the healthy shine and strength that Pureology has given it. Healthy hair grows fast, period! If you are finding your hair damaged or breaking it may be time to look for a new shampoo and conditioner. Pureology also have a huge line of systems for strength, volume and fade resistant colouring products so you are sure to find a system that works best for you and your hair! I would highly highly recommend getting a travel size bottle and trying it out, I can pretty much guarantee you will love it!

When my hair was long enough to lay flat I used Kevin Murphy’s Free Hold (medium hold) styling pomade. This stuff is genius if you have super short hair that needs structure and to stay in place without looking hard or greasy.

When my hair was long enough to curl I started using this Kevin Murphy Easy Rider Anti Frizz styling pomade. It has a great hold but not as structured as the previous and frizz free which was extra important for curls.

Lately I have been trying to limit the products I am using, a bit of hair spray here or there or some dry shampoo (Kevin Murphy’s) and I am finding my style and hair lasts longer and is growing faster!

Growing Techniques

As you are growing out your hair don’t be afraid to use a curling iron when its long enough or bobby pins in different variations to hold those stubborn short bangs back. I have used all of the above especially when it is at an awkward phase, curl it and run your hands through your curls so you have texture and volume but the cut is not as noticeable. I found bangs the most annoying, so i either twisted and pinned them back or now I am rocking the buffont until they are long enough!

Another key to growing out your hair is keeping it healthy which means avoiding heat and processing as much as possible and getting it trimmed every 6 weeks or so. I promised myself when I started growing out my hair that I would not over process or dye my hair at all. The less breakage and damage your hair experiences the less likely it is to grow. Will I ever not dye it, probably not but it won’t be happening until I get it to the length that I want! Until then,  this girls colour will be o’natural!

I hope this has helped any of you ladies through the frustrating stages of hair growth!
