Basic Summer Makeup

I love summer! Heat, sun, short shorts, loose tanks, fruity cocktails and that gorgeous summer glow! I try really hard not to bathe in the sun to avoid the not so pleasant sunburn so Ive learned a couple tricks to cheat the dewy glow!

A basic go to summer makeup look is a must for the days you are running arraigns, going to the pool or lounging in the sun and these products below are mine in the order that I use them!

Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base > This is my go to base before I put any makeup on, ever, summer or winter! It smells amazing, like a fresh grapefruit, is super hydrating, contains Vitamin A, C & E and leaves my skin so soft but not oily which is a problem I usually struggle with! ($66 here)

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer > Every girl needs a great tinted moisturizer! I have tried my fair share and I always end up coming back to this baby! It comes in 13 different shades depending on your skin tone and the tint you are looking for. It has a great texture and beautiful finish for a natural glow. Most weekends and office days this is all I wear on my skin. ($56 here)

Rimmel Maxi Bronzer & 3 in 1 Shimmering Bronzer > Some days I will put on my tinted moisturizer and go but other days when I want a bit more colour or shimmer I use these two bronzers. I grabbed these awhile ago on sale for $8 each at Shoppers and they are currently on sale now! The 3 in 1 shimmer is my go to as you can customize the look you want depending on how dark or light you want the finish and it has a beautiful shimmer. The Maxi Bronzer is a great matte finish bronzer for a quick application or additional colour for the 3 in 1 shimmer. If you are looking for a great drug store bronzer I highly recommend these!

DiorShow Waterproof Mascara > I only use waterproof mascara as I find it lasts much longer and better than regular mascara. This diorshow mascara I have used for the last several years and it is my go to mascara for a easy summer look or dressed up night out. It has a larger bristled end which gives sky high length and great volume. ($31 here)

Smashbox Be Legendary Lip Gloss > Lastly a girl need a shiny lip! I love lipgloss. Even when I wear lipstick I always put gloss on top! For an easy look I love this neutral dusty pink Smashbox gloss! It gives a very soft neutral lip that goes with anything! ($23 here)

I hope you enjoyed my basic summer makeup go to’s! xo

Lips, Lips Lips!

I love wearing lipstick, it can be worn casually or to dress up any outfit! I feel like some women are very intimidated to wear lipstick and this should not be the case!! You have to think of it like you are just adding another accessory to your outfit! It definitely takes time to master but it is soo worth it when you do! I have outlined the steps I take when I wear lipstick as well as shown my favourite shades I am currently obsessed with! I can only hope that this makes it a little less scary for you ladies to rock a bold, strong lip colour!

Hope you enjoy! xo

1. I like to prime my lips whenever I am putting on liner and lipstick. I love Laura Mercier concealer to do this regardless of the colour of lip I am wearing. Using any concealer will help even out the colour as well as provide a base for your lip liner!

2. I line my lips with a similar colour of liner to the lipstick I will be wearing. I will then fill in the lips with this same liner. I personally find that filling in the lips helps make the pigment of the lipstick bolder and makes the lipstick last longer. Keep in mind you can also alter the colour of your lipstick slightly depending on the hue of liner you use!

3. I will apply the lipstick over the liner and make sure to connect the lipstick on either end so you make a complete circle on your lips with the lipstick (i hope this makes sense because its hard to describe!!) Lastly I will line the outer lines of my lips with a concealer using a fine point brush (I also use this same brush and concealer to finish off my brows: hint hint!). This helps finish the look and aid in the precision of the lines of lipstick!

Here are the sequences with the three different shades I used! In order from top to bottom, Too Faced Melted Peony, Too Faced Melted Strawberry, and Too Faced Jelly Donut! My favourite red, pink and nude shades, all of which can be found at Sephora!! My favourite part about these lipsticks is the pigment is so strong and bright, they colour lasts all day and the applicator tip is a beautiful mix between a lipstick applicator and a gloss applicator!

Whats In My Makeup Bag!

I should first note I have no education in makeup whatsoever! Like most women I have learned through magazines/friends/mom/youtubing etc and I really enjoy learning about products and trying them out!

Ok, first we are going to talk about my makeup case, how cute is it!!! It is only $12 at Forever 21 (link here)! It easily stores all of my makeup as well as my makeup brush bag which I also snatched up at Forever 21 for $11 (link here). One recommendation for makeup that I use every single solitary time I am buying any piece of makeup, is the Sephora website. I absolutely lovvvve their website for the reviews, you can tell right away if people are loving or hating a product, why and also what colours and shades are better suited for your skin type! Even if I am going into the store to pick up a couple things I will always go online first and sometimes ill even be on the site while I am in the store looking at products!!! Use it, you won’t be dissapointed!!  (Sephora link here)

Below I have broken up every item in my makeup kit and this is also everything i carry on when I am traveling! For links to all of the products just click on the individual names of each item!

Hope you enjoy! xo

The Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palettes: These are so fab and an absolute must especially if you travel. I have the Naked 2 and Naked 3 Palettes. The Naked 2 palette is a combination of browns and golds and the Naked 3 is a combination of rose golds and purples! When I am traveling, I always take these two palettes and I am more than covered for any daytime or night time looks!

Sigma Beauty Brushes: I bought the Kabuki Kit over a year ago and the brushes have held up amazingly! They are synthetic fibers and I have had zero shedding. I also find the price very reasonable considering they do not shed, nothing like spending $30 on a brush and having it shed! Whether you are applying, blending or buffing these babies have got you covered!

Geisha Ink: This is a product I am almost guaranteed to use everyday, it is my go to liquid eyeliner. It is very easy to use and lasts forrrrevvvverr!  I have used Geisha Ink for probably close to three years and love both the brown and black shades for more or less dramatic eyes! I purchase mine at Lash Affair here in Edmonton or you can grab it online!

Anastasia Beverly Hills: This is one of my favourite brands right now! Big bushy eyebrows are in people!! I currently use the Anastasia Contour kit, Dipbrow in Ebony  & Dark Brown depending on the season I like to go a bit lighter during the winter when I am more pale so it is less harsh looking and I transition to darker for summer when my skin isn’t as white as a snowman! I use the dip brow to shape the outer and inner lines and to fill them in.  I will also use the Brow wiz to shape for a more natural look and the Brow Duality for eyebrow highlighting. Lastly I will finish my eyebrows with the Brow Gel to make sure those little hairs stay in place throughout the day!

Tarte:  There are several reasons that I love this brand, the first being that it is 100% cruelty free, no need to harm animals in the process of looking fab! The second is the quality of their products. I love love love their BB Tinted 12hr Primer  which evens out my skin and makes it feel so smooth and their Amazonian Clay Foundation that allows for beautiful coverage, protection against the sun with SPF 15 and never feels too heavy or clogs pores.Next on my list of things to try is their Maracuja Self Tanner, self tanner post coming soon!

MakeUp Forever Full Coverage Concealer: Makeup Forever has a great line of products and this is probably one of the best concealers on the market. The Full Coverage Concealer lightens, brightens and is guaranteed to  hide those dark circles. Whether you are looking for a soft week highlight under the eyes or a full coverage look, this concealer does the job!

Bobbi Brown: This is such a fab line and you are sure to love all of their products, currently I am loving their Vitamin Enriched Face Base, putting this baby on before primer and foundation. It has a great smell and leaves my face feeling moisturized and fresh!

Laura Mercier: Their Translucent Loose Setting Powder  is awesome! I love this powder to set my concealer and and their Secret Camoflauge Concealer  is a great combination to the makeup forever or for hiding those stubborn imperfections. I love that there are two shades in the kit for varying skin tones and unevenness and the coverage on both is top notch!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer: This Eyeshadow Primer Potion in the shade Sin I literally use everyday regardless of whether I am working or running errands over the weekend. It has a beautiful shimmering champagne colour that looks great by itself or as the foundation for maintaining eyeshadow throughout the day! It really helps hold any eyeshadow I do put on and doesn’t leave it creasy or uneven!

Mac: I love Mac products especially their Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation. It is a great powder foundation if you are looking for a sheer matte finish with a beautiful even coverage!

Too Faced Liquid Lipstick: I am obsessed with these babies right now, they have a huge selection of colors and the pigment is so beautiful, bright and long lasting! The two Melted Long Lasting Liquified Lipstick colours in the photo are Melted Strawberry and Melted Jelly Donut!

Diorshow Mascara: I have used and tried so many mascaras I have lost count but I always seem to end up back with this one. The brush allows for thickness and volume without the clumsiness that is often found with other mascaras. You can also purchase their primer which is amazing for that little extra plumping for a special night out (here). Even when I have lash extensions I am still reaching for this mascara!

Drugstore Favorites:

Lastly I wanted to add this section because lets face it we would all be broke if we only shopped at Sephora, I can literally never leave there without spending under $100!

Benefit Cosmetics is now selling at Shoppers (yay!) and their Porefessional primer and “That Gal” brightening face primer are so fab, they even out your skin tone, prime for your foundation and leave your skin feeling like velvet!

Covergirl: I love their Ready Set Gorgeous line, especially the concealer (pictured in colour light! I also adore their lipstick and lip stain in the hot pink, red and coral shades!

Annabelle: Lastly I love Annabelle’s lip liner, for $5 you’ve got a great pigmented liner that last all day with little to no touch ups needed!
