Easter Berry Makeup Look

It has been a while since i did a berry lip and with Easter and all of the spring colours coming out, this is a great transition lip from winter to spring, not too bright but bright enough to pop! I like to do a muted eye when I do a bolder lip, it gives the look a more natural finish and lets the lip speak for the look! It also allows the look to transition from day to night flawlessly!

With Easter just around the corner I love this look for a brunch celebration or dinner with the family! Just enough colour on the eye for it to pop but not overwhelm the look! The L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Gloss 310 in Forbidden Kiss is one of my favourite lip consistencies, it is so easy to put on and so hydrating and pigmented for a matte gloss finish, and an added bonus is the reasonable price!!

Ive linked all my makeup details below as well as linked my off the shoulder top and gorgeous earrings and bracelets!

Lipsense Review

I was very fortunate to have Ashley of Hello Beautiful Lips reach out to me and offer a Lipsense combo to try out! I have to say I had heard about lip sense before but really wasn’t completely sold on the concept so I was excited to give it a try and test it out!

Lipsense is probably best known for having the irremovable lipstick, wear it all day and it does not come off, period! When the lip sense arrived my initial thoughts were that I liked the size of the product, it was a good amount of product and can last 4-6mths with daily application. Another noteworthy mention is that Lipsense has a 100% money back guarantee, if you buy the product and don’t like the colour or product in general for any reasons you can return it for a 100% refund!

I am a sucker for coral and was lucky enough to have Ashley send me the Salmon colour lip sense and Gloss.

Recommendation for Application

  1. Start with clean and dry lips.
  2. With lips parted, place lip sense applicator on the corner of the bottom of your lip
  3. In a fluid sweeping motion, brush the applicator to the opposite corner of your bottom lip without lifting the applicator (Do not go back and forth)
  4. Repeat step three for upper lip
  5. Keep lips open to all product to dry for 5 seconds
  6. Repeat 2 more times
  7. Finish with your topcoat gloss to seal in the colour
  8. Reapply gold throughout the day as needed

To see a more descriptive look at the application process I highly recommend youtube!

First Impression

The first time I applied the product to my lips, they were quite dry and I felt a tingling/stinging sensation. This can happen the first couple applications if you have dry lips as each colour contains SD40 alcohol. This works to exfoliate and clean the lips. It was also very evident that as you continued to apply the 3 coats the intensity of the colour increased significantly as the initial application does show very light. Lipsense will continue to shed the dead skin and exfoliate the lips while hydrating so it is recommended to continue to use it!

My first impression of the gloss, I loved it! A smooth consistency and a glossy finish, I found it intensified the colour and provided the necessary hydration for the what can feel like a dry liquid lipstick. I have also used the gloss with other lip products and it worked just as beautifully, just watch for any transfer of colour onto the gloss applicator!

Overall Review

Although I was very skeptical, I am happy to report that Lipsense exceeded my expectations! I love that I can wear this lipstick all day long, kiss my son a thousand times over and not have any end up on his face! I was also thrilled to find out that Lipsense does not test on animals, is vegan and gluten free! I have included some of the other lip sense colours below (more can be found on Ashley’s Facebook page) as well as Ashley’s contact information below, feel free to contact her with any questions or if you want to go ahead and order, they are a variety of colours on her Facebook page to choose from!

Spring Inspired Makeup

I wanted to put together an easy spring inspired look that is a little different from my usual! Instead of my typical winged eye liner I chose to use the Amaterasu liquid liner in Espresso and just line the lash line. This gives the illusion of a thick lash line without adding to much drama to the eye! On the eyes themselves I actually used a light pink blush from the Morphe Brushes Palette and used that same blush on my cheeks! With a little gloss this look is complete!

Ive linked all of the details below!

Save vs Splurge: Mascara Primer

Happy Makeup Monday!

I was first introduced to mascara primer a couple years ago when I tried the Dior Mascara Primer! I loved that it extended the wear and enhanced the mascara itself however the Dior price tag was not for me! Once I was hooked on mascara primer I sought after a primer that was just as great in quality but more affordable, in comes the Tarte Opening Act Mascara Primer. Ive been using this product for the last year and absolutely loving it until I stumbled upon the L’Oreal Voluminous collection, including their Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara (my absolute favourite) and their Voluminous Mascara Primer.

At $7, the Voluminous primer is an absolute steal and the quality is exceptional! In comparison to the Tarte primer I find I get more length, volume and thickness with the Voluminous primer. I believe this difference is because of the bristles of the brush itself. As you can see below the bristles are longer, thicker and wider allowing your lashes an even and thick coat of primer that separates and extends each lash! Unfortunately I was unable to get some good photos comparing but I will share some in the future, with Clayton being away getting even 10 minutes to myself has been difficult!

Overall I would highly recommend you save and invest in the Voluminous Mascara Primer. It will be the best $7 you spend, as many women will attest that good mascara is a game changer, well consider your mascara game changed!!

Hope you have a great week!

Save or Splurge: NYX Genius Illuminating Palette vs Becca Cosmetics Champagne Pop

Two months ago I had never used a highlighter let alone bought one and after watching some videos and doing some research I decided I needed to try out this latest trend.

Highlighting, also known as strobing is used to enhance and accentuate your bone structure as the light reflects the pigment of the highlighter, giving the appearance of a healthy glow. I have come to adore this look especially for the coming summer months!

The key to using highlight and not looking like a hot mess.

  1. A little goes a long way! I only use highlighter on my cheekbones, above the curve of my brows, on my cupids bow and down the bridge of my nose. You can also use highlighter on your collar bones if you are wearing a tank top to help accentuate your bone structure! Going over board on your application will result in a hot mess!
  2. When using a highlighter only use shimmer in your highlighter, use matte powders for the rest of your face Ie blush, bronzer, foundation etc. This will help accentuate and highlight your features as well as help avoid a your whole face reflecting light!
  3. Find a highlighter that compliments your skin tone. If your skin has pink undertones look for a highlighter with those same pink undertones, for olive skin look for yellow/gold undertones etc.

The first highlighter I ever purchased was this NYX Genius Illuminating Palette at Shoppers Drug Mart. For the price it is really unbeatable! $30 for 7 shades!! Highlighters range from $10 (Colourpop) to $50 (Becca Cosmetics), some of you may have heard of Champagne Pop, the collaboration between Jaclyn Hill and Becca Cosmetics?! Yes?! This highlighter is probably one of the most expensive ones on the market at $50, so I wanted to compare the two and see if the price difference was really worth it?!

Compared Side by Side with the NYX (bottom left) and Champagne Pop

(Left: Champagne Pop, Right: NYX Genius Palette bottom left)

The main difference between the two is Champagne pop has more of a peachy gold undertone and the Nyx Pallette shade is a bit more pinkish gold in pigment however both are gorgeous shades and if you have pink undertones in your skin I would recommend the NYX shade. Both have a buttery texture and a little goes a long way in each products case. I really like that champagne pop is the perfect neutral for any skin tone so it gets a little more browny points but in the end both are gorgeous highlighters. If cash flow is tight you are getting a fantastic deal with the Nyx palette (7 for the price of 1) and you are not compromising on quality. If you are a seasoned highlighter I would recommend Champagne pop!

Hope you enjoyed!
